Structure and relief in Physical Setting

Geological Structure

  • Structure refers to the rock of a physical geographical area
  • composition of rock what they are made of
  • The arrangement of rocks
  • The nature of rocks such as faulted & folded is an example.

For example, let take the structure of the Himalayan,
  • The composition of rock would be sedimentary and metamorphic rocks,
  • Nature of rock would be folded mountain ( Indian plate collided with Asian plate leading to the disappearing of Tethys sea and formation of Himalayan)

Relief:

It is the difference between the point and lowest point of the area.

On earth, the highest point is Mount Everest (8,848 meters) and the lowest point is the Mariana trench ( 10,034 meters). Hence relief of the earth is 18,882 meters.
