Getting to Know Plants

The following are the types of Plants



  • Weeds
    • Unwanted plants around crops.
  • Herbs 
    • The plants much smaller than you, may not have many branches. Example, Rose, Aloveera, etc
  • Shrubs
    • The plants about your size. Some plants develop branches near the base of the stem. The stem is hard but not very thicks. Examples, Lemon, Papaya, etc.
  • Trees
    • Trees are very tall and have a hard and thick stem. Examples, Mango tree,
  • Creepers
    • The plants with weak stems that can not stand upright but spread on the ground are called creepers. Examples, watermelon
  • Climbers
    • Those plants that take support to climb up, are called climbers. Example, Money plants

Parts of Leaf


  • Petiole
    • Leaf by which it is attached to stem is called a petiole.
  • Lamina
    • The green part of the leaf is called Lamina.
  • Veins
    • Lines on the leaf are called veins
  • Midrib
    • Prominent line in the middle of the leaf is called midrib.
  • Leaf venation
    • Design made by veins in the leaf is called leaf venation.
  • Reticulate
    • Net like the design on both side of midrib is called reticulate.
  • Parallel venation
    • Veins are parallel to one another are called parallel venation.


Transpiration: 

  • Water comes out from leaves in the form of vapor by the process is called transpiration.


Photosynthesis: 

  • Chlorophyll leaves Leaf prepares its food in the presence of sunlight

Parts of Root


  • Taproot
    • the Main root is called the taproot.
  • Lateral root 
    • Smaller roots are called lateral roots.
  • Fibrous roots 
    • Do not have the main root, all roots seem similar and these are called fibrous roots.





Parts of Flower

Petals

  • A flower is consists of many colorful leaves, colorful leaves are called petals.

Sepals

  • Small leaf-like structures ( generally green) below the petals are called sepals.

Pistil

  • The innermost part of the flower or the female fertilizing organ of the flower.

Stamens

  • the male fertilizing organ of the flower
