The Living Organisms and Their Surroundings

Himalayan Trees

  • Oaks, Pines, and Deodars

Organisms: Living creatures( both plants and animal)

  • Camel
    • Excrete small amount of urine, dry dung, do not sweat, and can live many days without water.
  • Fish:
    • Flat fines & tails: It helps him to change the direction
    • Gill presentee helps them to use Oxygen dissolved in water.

Adaptation

The presence of specific features or certain habits that enable an organism to live naturally in a place is called adaptation. Adaptation of organism differ and it is depending on their place of dwelling.

Habitat

The place where the organism lives are called habitat. Habitat provides food, water, air, shelter, and other needs to the organism.
There are two types of Habitats:

  • Terrestrial Habitat:
    • The plants and animals that live on land are called terrestrial habitat. Examples are, Forest, Grassland, desert.
  • Aquatic Habitats:
    • The plants and animals that live in water are called aquatic habitats. Examples are, Ocean, River, Ponds.

Terrestrial Habitats
Desert

  • In the desert, plants are either absent or very small
  • Photosynthesis in the plants usually carried out by stems
  • Most desert plants have very deep long roots

Mountain

  • Cold winds
  • The tree is normally cone-shaped and sloping branches.
  • Animals have thick skin or fur to protect them from cold. Yaks have long hair to keep them warm. Snow leopards have thick fur and its body

Grasslands

  • Light brown color helps animals to hide dry grassland when it hunts for prey(animal to eat).
  • Predators: Animal-like lion that hunts their prey(deer), is called predators.

Aquatic Habitats

Ocean:

  • Dolphins & Whales do not have gills. They breathe air through Nostrils or Blowholes.
  • Aquatic plants
    • roots are much reduced in size and their main function is to hold the plants in place.

Acclimatization

There are some changes that can happen in an organism over a short period of time to help them adjust to some changes in their surroundings. Such small changes that take place in the body of a single organism over a short period to overcome small problems due to changes in the surrounding area called acclimatization.
It is different from adaptation( is the method get well adjusted to the climate) that takes place over thousands of years.

Biotic

  • Both plants and animals living organisms.

Abiotic

  • Nonliving things such as rocks, soils, air, and water.

Respiration

  • Breathing is the part biological process, it is called respiration.

Stimuli
You suddenly move from a dark place into bright sunlight. Your eyes shut themselves automatically for a moment till they adjust to changed bright.
Changes in our surroundings that make us respond to them are called stimuli.

Excretion
The process of getting rid of wastes by organisms is known as excretion.

Seed:
The seed also respire and in that process give out some heat.
