 The Ministry of Tourism is responsible for the formulation, administration, regulations, promotion of the tourism sector. 
India is very rich in natural and cultural diversity. The tourism industry is one of the fastest-growing industries in India but as of now, it has exploited less than 10 % of potential growth
As per India state ranking survey 2018:

• 1.85 billion domestic tourists visited a different part of countries in 2018. 
• 28.87 million foreign tourists visited during 2018. 

Spiritual and religious tourism in India is the most famous tourism type in India. More than 50 % of domestics tourism is some kind of religious in nature. They take part in local religious festivals. Apart from spiritual and religious tourism, As per the Annual report 2019-20 from the tourism ministry, there are 10 types of tourism niche: 

• Cruise
• Adventure
• Medical
• Wellness
• Golf
• Polo
• Business Tourism
• Eco-tourism
• Film tourism
• Sustainable tourism. 

Cruise Tourism:
The various step has taken out coastal areas such as Maharastra, Goa, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu to boost Cruise Tourism. Special operating Procedures(SOPs) are also being formulated.
The following are types of Cruise Tourism:

• Ocean Cruise
• River Cruise

Adventure Tourism:

• It is also called without road travel.
• Ladakh, Uttarkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, North Eastern States are the major Adventure tourism destination.

Medical Tourism:

• India is a major destination of cheap medical tourism for specialized surgery.
• Medical Visa is also introduced

Wellness Tourism:

• People travel to Ayurveda and yoga centers for wellness and fitness.
• Major destination, Haridwar, Kerala, etc.

Golf Tourism:

• The government has established the golf promotion workshop

Polo Tourism:

• The government promotes Polo as a heritage sport, as Polo Game was originated in India.

Business Tourism:

• Major destinations of meeting and seminar are the capital city of states, Delhi, and some larger cities.
• The government is keen to build an international standard for the conference.

Eco-Tourism:

• Empower the local community and government to the overall development of areas.
• Prepared policy for eco-tourism in forest and wildlife areas.

Film Tourism:

• Financial assistance up to 2 Lakh per film for space hire.
• Promote Cinema is part of "incredible India"

Sustainable Tourism:

• Promoting the importance of sustainable and responsive tourism practice.
