Answer.

Following are the major components of export items as per data for 2016-17:

  • Manufacturing Goods (73.60%)
  • Agriculture and Allied Activities(12.30%)
  • Petroleum Products(11.70%)
  • Ores and Minerals (1.9%)

Following are the major components of import items as per data for 2016-17:

  • Fuel-coal and crude petroleum (26.70%)
  • Capital Goods (13.6%)
  • Food and Allied Products (5.6%)
  • Fertilizers(1.30%)
  • Paper board manufacturing and newsprint (0.9%)

Due to industrialization and improvement in the quality of life of the people, the export share of manufacturing goods is high and the imports of fuel-coal-petroleum and capital goods have a large share.

Imports have increased due to the increase in demand for fertilizers in India due to Green Revolution.
