Why do you think that solar energy has a bright future in India?

Question.

Why do you think that solar energy has a bright future in India?

( Chapter - 5 Minerals and Energy Resources, Cass X NCERT Contemporary India -II )

Answer.

Solar energy is radiant energy that comes from the Sun and can be captured by solar technologies such as photovoltaic (PV) panels or solar thermal. By August 2022, India has an installed capacity of about 59 GW of solar power. In the year 2021, India was the fifth largest country in installed solar power capacity.

For the following reasons, we think that the future of solar energy in India is bright:

Solar energy is a non-conventional, renewable, clean, sustainable, and inexhaustible source of energy.

According to India's Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, about 5000 trillion kWh per year of solar energy is received in the Indian landmass every year. India can easily generate about 748 GW of solar power from its barren land areas (assume that 3 percent of India's land is barren land).

India is a tropical country and has immense potential for harnessing solar energy. Photovoltaic technology converts sunlight directly into electricity that can be connected to the grid for the widespread use and stored in batteries for later use.

It is best suited for energy sources in remote areas and inaccessible areas of India such as hilly areas, islands, and deserts.

Solar energy is most popular in rural areas. It reduces the dependence of rural households on firewood and dung cakes. Fertilizers will be available for agriculture by reducing the consumption of cow dung in rural energy.

Having a clean source of energy will help India fight climate change and meet the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement.
