Question.

How is migration a determinant factor of population change?

( Chapter - 6 Population, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )

Answer.

Population change refers to the decrease or increase of the population of a particular geographical area in a year. There are three major determinant factors of population change-birth rate, death rate, and migration.

Migration is one determinant factor of population change as migration involves the movement of people among regions. So the movement of people changes the size of the population.

Migration changes the population in two ways. When people move from the source region to the destination region, it decreases the population in the source region and it increases the population in the destination region.

In India, the increase in the urban population happens mainly due to rural-to-urban migration.

So, we can say migration is a determinant factor of population change.
