What are some Principles of Sustainable Development?

( Chapter - 1 Resource, Cass 8 NCERT Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

In sustainable development, we develop not only for the people or society but also for the environment and other natural resources.

Following are some of the principles of sustainable development:

We should respect and care for all forms of life, and we should not harm them unnecessarily. Also, things should not be consumed more than necessary. If mining is necessary for economic development, reforestation and afforestation should be done in parallel to balance the loss of mining.

We should improve the quality of human life along with improving the surrounding environment and making it pollution free. Only a healthy human can keep the environment clean and a clean environment can keep humans healthy.

We should conserve the diversity of the earth because every life is very essential for the survival of the ecosystem.

We should reduce the depletion of natural resources like forests, water, and mineral resources by reducing the consumption rate, recycling, and reusing them.

We must change our personal attitudes and habits towards the environment. Society should be made aware that how it harms the environment with each and every of our and even non-sustainable work. For example, we should eat fresh vegetables instead of meat, and instead of online shopping, we should buy things from the nearest market. Non-veg eating and online shopping cause a lot of damage to the environment. Animal husbandry produces greenhouse gas and online shopping uses paper and plastic in packing as well as consumes more energy to deliver it to your home.

We must enable communities to take care of their own environment.
