( Chapter - 3 Mineral and Power Resources, Cass 8 NCERT Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

Ores are rocks from which minerals can be mined on a profitable basis. An ore may contain one or more minerals.

Some examples of ores of metallic minerals are iron ore, manganese ore, and bauxite. Steel and iron ore are extracted from iron ore. Manganese mineral is extracted from manganese ore. Aluminum is extracted from the mineral bauxite ore.

The ores of metallic minerals are generally located on igneous and metamorphic rocks which are generally found in the plateau region while the ores of non-metallic minerals are found in the sedimentary rocks found in mountain and plain areas.

The following are examples of metallic minerals found in igneous and metamorphic rocks:

iron ore in northern Sweden;

copper and nickel ores in Ontario, Canada;

iron, nickel, chromite, and platinum in South Africa;

Reserves of iron ore and manganese are found in the Chhotanagpur plateau.
