Question.

Differentiate between rock and ore.

( Chapter - 3 Mineral and Power Resources, Cass 8 NCERT Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

Following are the differences between rock and ore:

One or more than one mineral is found in the rock but there is no definite composition of minerals in the rock while ores are rocks with a definite composition of minerals.

There are three types of rocks – igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks while there are about 100 types of ores.

Rocks have less economic value than ores.

Examples of rocks are Redstone, marble, sandstone, etc. while examples of ores are iron ore, bauxite, mica, etc.

Ore attracts industries while rock does not.
