Question.

Why is it that the houses in the Tarai region and in Goa and Mangalore have sloping roofs?

( Chapter - 4 Climate, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )

Answer.

Terai region and Goa and Mangalore come under heavy rainfall areas and they receive heavy monsoonal rains.

Houses in the Tarai region and in Goa and Mangalore have sloping roofs which prevent rainwater from leaking inside houses.

Sloped roofs enable rainwater to move faster toward the ground and they prevent water logging on the roof which prevents roof damage.
