Classify the states into four groups each having common frontiers with

(i) Pakistan

(ii) China

(iii) Myanmar

(iv) Bangladesh.

Answer. 

As of November 2022, India has 28 states and 8 union territories and there are seven countries that share land borders with India.


(i) Pakistan

Pakistan is situated to the northwest of India. There are three states and two union territories that share common borders with Pakistan. The names of the three states are Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab.

The names of the two Union Territories that share a border with Pakistan are Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.


(ii) China

China is situated to the north of India. China shares the second-longest border with India after Bangladesh.

There are four states and one union territory that share a common border with China.

The names of the four states are Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh. Ladakh is the only Union Territory that shares a border with China.


(iii) Myanmar

Myanmar is located in the eastern part of India.

The four states share common boundaries with Myanmar.

The names of the four states are Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram.


(iv) Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is located in the eastern part of India. Bangladesh shares the longest land border with India.

There are five states that share common borders with Bangladesh.

The names of the five states are Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, and West Bengal.
