Question.

Give reasons, Sea caves are turned into stacks.

( Chapter - 3 Our Changing Earth, Class 7 NCERT, Our Environment( Geography) )

Answer.

Sea caves and stacks are two erosional landforms in the coastal region and are formed by sea waves.

Sea caves are turned into stacks due to the following reasons and processes -

Since ocean waves are the most active agents in the coastal zone, waves continuously strike the rock, causing cracks to develop in the rocks.

Over time the cracks in the rocks get bigger and wider and form a hollow structure, this type of structure is called a sea cave.

Over time these caves get bigger and bigger and only the roof of the caves remains, this type of structure is called a sea arch.

Over time, the sea arches are further eroded and the roof of the sea arches is broken, leaving only wall-like structures, these wall-like structures are called stacks.

For this reason, sea caves are turned into stacks.
