The cotton textile industry is one type of agro-based industry. Major factors that affect the cotton textile industries are labor, power, humid climate, connectivity, market, and raw material ( cotton).

Mumbai is the largest textile city in India. 

The following reasons are responsible for the rapid expansion of the textile industry in Mumbai:

Mumbai is located near the cotton-producing region of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Mumbai has a favorable humid climate that makes it well-suited to spinning and weaving.

The dense population of Mumbai provides both skilled and semi-skilled labor to the industry.

Well-developed transportation line, both railways and road networks to a different part of India from Mumbai provides easy transportation of textile to different part of India.

Mumbai port facilitates the import of machinery and the export of cotton textiles to different parts of the world.

Hydel energy from the western ghats provides cheap electricity to the textile mills.
