Answer.

Rocks are the hard natural mineral substances that make up the Earth's crust. Rock is the basic building block of the Earth's crust.

Rocks are very useful and it is a type of natural resource as it has various utilities and also has economic value.


Rocks have the following uses-

Rocks are used as basic raw materials for construction activities like roads, buildings, bridges, railway tracks, foundations, etc. For example, the Taj Mahal is made of white marble (a type of metamorphic rock) while the Red Fort of Delhi is made of red sandstone (a type of sedimentary rock).

Many utility objects such as statues and grinding stones are commonly made from rocks. For example, Silouta is found in every Indian kitchen which is usually made of granite rock (which is a type of igneous rock).

Rocks are used for entertainment purposes like seven stones (pitthu) and five stones (gitti).

Limestone is the raw material for cement industries which is a type of rock.

The rocks are used as bath scrubs.

Rocks are used for writing. For example, chalk (sedimentary rock) is used for writing.

Rocks are also used for record keeping. Many inscriptions have been found which provide information about the history.

Rocks are used for bunding and rock barriers that prevent soil erosion.
