Public servants are those who work under the government and work for the public. They have many legal and ethical responsibilities towards the public and government which help them to work betterment of the public.
Public servants hold a vital position in governance and administration and are expected to uphold high ethical standards in their conduct and behaviors.
They perform many ethical responsibilities. Some of the ethical responsibilities of public servants are-
Maintaining public trust and integrity of civil services; Public servants must maintain a high level of ethical standards like integrity and honesty to dealing with the public, this will help to maintain public trust.
Maintaining objectivity in decision-making; Civil servants must remain impartial and must keep objectivity in decision-making. Civil servants have ethical responsibilities to establish merit-based decision-making.
Transparency and accountability; Public servants have an ethical responsibility to maintain transparency and accountability in decisions making.
Keeping confidentiality; Public servants have ethical responsibilities to keep confidential information to serve the best interest of the public.
In keeping a just and fair society; Civil servants have ethical responsibilities to treat all individuals with fairness and respect and they should ensure that their actions should not discriminate against individuals or particular groups.
Protect the privacy of citizens; It is the ethical responsibility of public servants to protect the privacy of public servants.
