Answer.

The "Make in India" program was launched in 2014 to promote manufacturing through foreign investment, technology transfer, labor reform, and skill development.

The success of the “Make in India” program indeed depends on the success of the “Skill India” program and radical labor reforms. Here are some logical arguments supporting this viewpoint-

Skilled workforce; The “Make in India” program requires a skilled workforce to meet the demands of the manufacturing sector. As per the estimate, there is a skills gap between manufacturing and Academia.  Skill India program enhances skills through training and vocational education. A skilled workforce can contribute effectively to the manufacturing industry and also attract foreign investors, which will be the driving force of Make in India. Because of this, the government of India launched the Skill India program in 2015 to reduce the gap between the skill required for manufacturing sectors and skills provided by academic institutions. It aims to provide market-oriented skills to 40 crore youth by 2022.

Labor reforms; Radical labor reforms may facilitate efficient hiring and firing processes, and provide companies with changing market conditions. Radical labor reforms can play a crucial role in making India a favorable destination for investment. Labor reforms are crucial for making ease of doing business and creating a business-friendly environment, that helps in bringing foreign direct investment into the country, which will strengthen the " Make in India " program.

Cost-competitiveness; Skilled labor and efficient labor regulation can reduce costs. When the workforce is skilled, productivity increases, leading to higher production efficiency and cost savings. Radical labor reforms establish a balance between worker protection and business requirements and can promote a more competitive labor market. So, “make in India” also depends on cost competitiveness.

Technology adoption; Skill India program would make the workforce innovative, and would enable them to adopt technology more efficiently. Therefore, the manufacturing process would be more effective, promotive innovation, and the adoption of advanced manufacturing techniques, this will attract foreign investment and attract foreign companies to do business in India.

In conclusion, the success of the Make in India program depends on the success of the Skill India program and radical labor reforms. The skilled workforce enhances productivity, and labor reforms can create a conducive business environment, both can attract foreign investment, promotes cost-competitiveness and technology adoptions, and provide overall success of the “Make in India” program.
