Answer.

"Technology Mission" in Indian agriculture refers to a focused and time-bound initiative aimed at addressing specific technological challenges in the agricultural sector and promoting the adoption of advanced technology in the agricultural sector.


The Technology Mission in Indian agriculture was initially launched in 1987 focusing on oilseed crop and dairy production. However, later the mission was expanded to other agricultural fields like Pulses, Maize, Palm Oil, Horticulture, Livestock, Coconut, and agricultural technology.


The following are the major objectives of the Technology Mission-


Enhancing agriculture productivity: 

The mission aims to introduce innovative technology, practices, and inputs that can improve crop fields, livestock production, and overall farm productivity.


Promoting Sustainable Farming Practices: 

Another objective of the technology mission is to promote sustainable farming practices. This aims is to adopt technologies and practices that optimize the use of natural resources, minimize environmental impact, and promote sustainable agriculture. Under this mission, we focus on soil health management, water conservation, integrated pest management, and the use of organic and bio-inputs.


Agricultural research and education: 

This involves conducting research and development activities, creating awareness, and training and capacity-building programs. It aims to develop new varieties of crops, Livestock breeds, and technology for specific agro-climatic conditions.


Ensuring food security: 

The mission aims to increase food grain production and productivity, reduce post-harvest waste,  and reduce the dependency on food grains import to ensure food security in the country.


Improving Farmer Income: 

The mission aims to improve the income and livelihoods of farmers by improving productivity and reducing the cost of production.


In Conclusion, the Technology mission in Indian agriculture plays a prominent role in driving agricultural development, improving farm productivity, and addressing the challenges faced by farmers.
