In which part of the world is seasonal grassland found?

Seasonal grasslands are characterized by grasses as the dominant vegetation type, and they often support a wide range of wildlife, including large herbivores like elephants and bison. 

These ecosystems are adapted to the seasonal fluctuations in precipitation and temperature that occur in these regions.

Seasonal grasslands are found in mid-latitudinal zones [  between 30°–60° latitude] and in the interior parts of the continents. It is primarily in regions with distinct wet and dry seasons. 

Some of the key regions where seasonal grasslands are located include:


The African savanna grasslands are the most well-known seasonal grasslands. These vast grasslands cover significant portions of Africa, especially in countries like Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa.

South America: 

Seasonal grasslands can be found in parts of South America, particularly in countries like Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil. The Pampas in Argentina is a famous example.


The Australian Outback includes seasonal grasslands.

North America:

In North America, the Great Plains region, often referred to as the "American prairie," is a notable area with seasonal grasslands.


Seasonal grasslands are present in some regions of Asia, including parts of Mongolia and northern India, where the climate features distinct wet and dry seasons.
