 Strait:

A strait is a narrow channel of waterways that connects two seas or two large water bodies or separates two land masses.

Indian Ocean:

The following are the major straits related Indian Ocean:

Important Straits of Indian Ocean


Balb-el-Mandeb Strait:

Balb-el-Mandeb Strait is located between Yemen ( East) and Djibouti ( West). It connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.


Hormuz Strait:

Hormuz Strait is located between Oman ( west) and Iran ( East). It connects the Gulf of Persia and the Gulf of Oman.


Mozambique Strait:

Mozambique Strait separates Mozambique ( East) and Madagascar ( West). 


Palk Strait:

Palk Strait separates India and Sri Lanka. It connects the Bay of Bengal ( East) and Palk Bay ( West).


Ten Degrees Channel:

Ten Degrees Channel is located between Little Andaman ( North) and Nicobar Islands ( South). It connects the Andaman Sea ( east) and the Bay of Bengal ( west).


Malacca Strait:

Malacca Strait is located between Malaysia and Indonesia. It connects the Andaman Sea and the South China Sea.


Sunda Strait:

Sunda Strait is located between Sumatra Island of Indonesia ( West) and Java Island of Indonesia ( East). It connects the Java Sea ( North) and the Indian Ocean ( South).


Bali Strait:

Bali Strait is located between Java Island of Indonesia ( West) and Bali Island of Indonesia ( East). It connects the Indian Ocean ( South) and the Bali Sea ( North).


Lombok Strait:

Lombok Strait is located between Bali Island of Indonesia ( West) and Lombok Island of Indonesia ( East). It connects the Indian Ocean ( South) and the Java Sea ( North).


Makkassacar Strait:

Makkassacar Strait is located between Borneo Island(west) and Sulawesi Island of Indonesia ( East). It connects the Java Sea and the Celebeze Sea.


Mediterranean Sea and Black Sea:

Strait of Otranto:

The Strait of Otranto is located between Italy ( West) and Albania ( East). It connects the Adriatic Sea ( North) and the Ionian Sea ( South). 


Dardanelles Strait:

Dardanelles Strait is located in Turkey. It connects the Sea of Marmara ( North) and the Aegean Sea ( South).


Bosphorus Strait:

Istanbul, Turkey is located on the Bosphorus Strait. It connects the Black Sea ( North) and the Sea of Marmara ( South).


Kerch Strait:

Kerch Strait is located between the Kerch Peninsula of Crimea ( West) and the Taman Peninsula of Russia. It connects the Sea of Azov ( North) and the Black Sea ( South).

Denmark Strait:

Denmark Strait is between Greenland ( West) and Iceland ( East). It connects the Atlantic Ocean ( South) and the Arctic Ocean ( North). 


Davis Strait:

Davis Strait is between Greenland ( East) and Canada ( West). It connects the Atlantic Ocean ( South) and Baffin Bay ( North).


North Channel: 

North Channel is located between Ireland ( West) and England ( East). It connects the Irish Sea ( South) and the Atlantic Ocean ( North). 


Hudson Strait:

Hudson Strait is located in Eastern Canada. It connects Hudson Bay ( North) and the Labrador Sea ( South).


Florida Strait:

Florida Strait is located between the United States of America ( North) and Cuba ( South). It connects the Gulf of Mexico ( West) and the Atlantic Sea ( East).


Dover Strait:

Dover Strait is located between England ( West) and France ( East). It connects the English Channel ( South) and the North Sea ( North). 


Gibraltar Strait:

Gibraltar Strait is located between Spain ( North) and Morocco ( South). It connects the Mediterranean Sea ( East) and the Atlantic Ocean ( West).


Jamaica Channel:

Jamaica Channel is located between Jamaica and Hispaniola. It connects the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic.


Magellan Strait:

Magellan Strait is located in Chile. It connects the South Pacific Ocean and the South Atlantic Ocean.

 

Yucatan Strait:

Yucatan Strait is located between Mexico ( West) and Cuba ( East). It connects the Gulf of Mexico ( North) and the Caribbean Sea (South).

Cook Strait:

Cook Strait is located between the North New Zealand Islands and the South New Zealand Islands. It is located in the South Pacific Ocean. 


Taurus Strait:

Taurus Strait is located between Papua New Guinea and Australia. It connects the Arafura Sea ( West) and the Gulf of Papua ( East). 


Bass Strait:

Bass Strait is located between Tasmania Island ( South) and Australia ( North). It connects the Indian Ocean ( West) and the Tasman Sea ( East). 


Bering Strait:

Bering Strait is located between Alaska ( West) and Russia ( East). It connects the Arctic Ocean ( North) and the Pacific Ocean ( South). 


Tatar Strait:

Tatar Strait is located between East Russia and the Sakhalin Island of Russia. It connects the Sea of Japan ( South) and the Sea of Okhotsk ( North). 


Taiwan strait:

Taiwan Strait is located between China ( West) and Taipei ( East). It connects the South China Sea and the East China Sea.


Bohai Strait:

Bohai Strait connects the Bohai Sea ( West) and the Yellow Sea ( East). It is located near China and South Korea.


Korea Strait:

Korea Strait is located between Japan ( East) and South Korea ( West). It connects the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan.
