Why is the South West Monsoon called "Purvaiya" ( easterly) in the Bhojpur Region? How has this directional seasonal wind system influenced the cultural ethos of the region? ( 10 Marks)

Answer. 

The monsoon winds enter the Indian subcontinent from the Indian Ocean in the South West Direction during summer months, which bring moisture-laden air from the Indian Ocean towards the Indian landmass. These monsoon winds get bifurcated into- Arabian branch of monsoon and Bay of Bengal branch of monsoon. 


Bhojpur region of Bihar receives rains from the Bay of Bengal branch of South West Monsoon. The Bay of Bengal branch of monsoon winds enters the Bhojpur region of Bihar from the eastern direction, which is why it is called "Purvaiya (Eastern)". 


Influences of  "Purvaiya" ( easterly)" on the cultural ethos of the Bhojpur region:

Cultural Celebrations( Festivals and Rituals):
