Why coldest temperature is found near-Arctic circle not in north poles, in the northern hemisphere?
Because of two reasons:

  • Ice melts near-Arctic circle and due to the melting of ice, the temperature goes down in the Arctic circle.
  • In north poles, winds descents, and cold sinking air does not melt the ice in northern poles, thus temperature remails high as compared to the arctic circle.
Verkhoyansk is the coldest place in the northern hemisphere, it is also called the ice poles of the northern hemisphere.
The following are more about Verkhoyansk:

  • It is located in Arctic Circle at 67.5 degrees North and 133.4 degrees East
  • It is located in the mountain.
  • Here, the temperature is highly variable from -67.8 degrees C in winter to 37.3 degrees in Summer.
  • The temperature inversion condition is found here because polar winds settled on the surface.
