What is meant by the ‘Solar System’| NCERT Geography class 6


Solar System is formed by celestial bodies related to Sun. It is part of Milky Way and it is stretched from Sun surface to Kuiper Belt.
The following celestial bodies are included in the solar system:

  • The Sun
  • Eight Plantes
  • Moons 
  • Asteroids belt that existed between Mars and Jupiter
  • Comets
  • Ices bodies
  • Gases and dust particles
  • Kuiper Belt
There are three parts of the Solar System:
  • Inner Solar system
  • Outer Solar system
  • Trans-Neptunian Region

Inner Solar System:
In this region, It is made up of four planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars, and Asteroid belt

Outer Solar System:
It is a region where giant gaseous planet exist and these are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.

Trans Neptunian region:
It is a region comprises from Pluto to Kuiper belt
