( Chapter - 1  India-Size and Location, Cass 9 NCERT Contemporary India -I )

Answer.

The sun rises two hours earlier in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh than in the western part of Gujarat because the longitudinal extent of India's west to east is 68° 7' E to 97° 25' E and it is about 30 degrees longitude interval which is 30* 4=120 minutes=2 hours. As we know, the sunrise is always towards the east, which is why the sun rises two hours earlier in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh as compared to the western part of Gujarat.

Despite the local time difference of two hours in the eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh compared to the western part of Gujarat, the clocks show the same time as there is only one time in India. Indian Time operates on the local time based on the Indian Standard Meridian (82°30'E) which passes through Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. India's standard meridian (82°30'E) passes almost through the middle of India (east-west extension).

Indian watches work on the basis of Indian Standard Time or Indian Standard Meridian (82°30'E). For this reason, the watches show at the same time in both states.
