What are the two important aspects of the evolution of landforms?

 Question.

What are the two important aspects of the evolution of landforms?

Answer.

The landform is the small to medium part of the earth's surface; Examples of landforms are mountains, plains, hills, valleys, beaches, etc.

The meaning of the evolution of landforms is the change of landforms from one form to another or the change of different landforms once they are formed. The formation of mountains, widening of valleys, change from mountains to hills are examples of evolution of landforms.

The following are the two aspects of the evolution of landforms:

  • Climatic condition [exogenous forces]
  • Vertical or horizontal motion of land mass [endogenous force]

Changes in climatic conditions is the major driving force of the transformation of one form of landform into another by various geomorphic agents such as running water, winds, glaciers, etc. Weathering, erosion and deposition are the three major processes that work under exogenous forces.

The vertical or horizontal movement of land masses mainly acts in the formation of new landforms. The elevation of the terrain [mountain formation] or the submergence [depression] of the terrain is the result of endogenous forces.

Hence, we can say that climatic change and vertical or horizontal movement of land are two important aspects of the development of landforms.
