Answer.

Following are the major components of import items as per data for 2016-17:

  • Fuel-coal and petroleum (26.70%)
  • Capital Goods (13.6%)
  • Food and Allied Products (5.6%)
  • Fertilizers(1.30%)
  • Paper board manufacturing and newsprint (0.9%)

India imports petroleum commodities from Gulf countries like Iraq, UAE, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, etc.

India imports heavy capital goods from the USA, Europe, and Japan.

India imports major electrical and electronic goods from China.

India imports edible oils from ASEAN countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.

India imports items of pulses from the African continent.

India imports fertilizers from the countries of Israel and Lithuania.

India imports major defense materials from Russia, Israel, the USA, France, etc.
