 Question.

While the sun rises earlier in the east, say Nagaland, and also sets earlier, how do the watches at Kohima and New Delhi show at the same time?

(Chapter-1 India — Location, Class 11 NCERT geography "India Physical Environment")

Answer.

As we know the following things;

  • The sun always rises from the east and always sets from the west.
  • Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh are located in the eastern part of India and New Delhi is located in the western-central part of India.
  • There is only one Standard Time in India which is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Beach.

Since there is only one standard time in India which considers 82°30' East longitude time. Therefore, the clocks of India tell the same time of 82°30' East longitude at all places of the country, wherever they are. Hence the clocks in Kohima and New Delhi show the same time.
