characteristics of the Peninsular river

The following are three important features of the Peninsular River;

Most of the peninsular rivers are seasonal in nature i.e. they contain water during the monsoon season and become mostly dry during the non-monsoon season. The main reason for the seasonal nature of peninsular rivers is their origin; Most of the peninsular rivers originate from the Western Ghats and glaciers are not found in the Western Ghats.

Peninsular rivers are shorter in length and have broad and shallow basins. The broad and shallow valleys of the peninsular rivers indicate the maturity stage of the river as the peninsular rivers are older than the Himalayan rivers.

Most peninsular rivers have a definite course and are absent of meanders. Most of the major rivers of peninsular India originate in the Western Ghats and flow eastwards towards the Bay of Bengal as most of the peninsular land slopes towards the Bay of Bengal.
