Answer.

Rivers and lakes are water bodies that provide us many ecological, social, and economic benefits.

The following are some economic benefits of rivers and lakes:

Rivers and lakes, both are reservoirs of potable water. Both rural and urban settlements preferred to develop around rivers and lakes. Most of the big cities like Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, Patna, etc are flourishing along the river.

Rivers and lakes are used for irrigation on which agriculture activities developed and millions of livelihood sustained on it.

Rivers and lakes are used for navigation which provides cheap sources of transportation.

River and lakes water are used to generate hydel electricity which is a relatively cheap and clean source of energy. For example, many river dam projects like the Rihand dam are used to generate hydel electricity.

Rivers and lakes help to reduce the losses occurred due to floods and droughts by regulating the water.

They are used for fishing activities.

Rivers and lakes are attractive tourist spots that provide millions of livelihoods.

Industries also preferred to be located on rivers and lakes as they need huge water for processing and cooling.


So we can say. rivers and lakes benefit the agriculture sectors, industrial sectors, service sectors, and development of human settlements.
