( Chapter - 6 Human Resources, Cass 8 NCERT, Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

The population is not constant, it keeps on changing from time to time. Population change refers to the change in the number of people during a specific period of time.

The three factors affecting population change are birth rate, death rate, and migration rate. Birth rate and death rate are two factors affecting population change.

Role of birth rate and death rate affecting population change-

The birth rate refers to the number of live births per 1000 people while the death rate refers to the number of deaths per 1000 people.

The birth rate increases the population whereas the death rate decreases the population.

Birth rates and death rates are natural causes of population change, and the difference between a country's birth rate and the death rate is known as its natural growth rate.

Population growth in most countries (such as India and Bangladesh) is mainly due to an increase in the natural growth rate.

If the birth rate is more than the death rate then there is a natural increase in the population.

If the birth rate and death rate are the same, then the natural population remains the same.

If the birth rate is less than the death rate, then the natural population decreases.
