Answer.
Early humans adapted themselves to the natural environment to meet their needs. But with the passage of time, man learned to change the environment according to his needs instead of adapting himself according to the natural environment. Man changes the environment through innovations and technological advances.
Today human environments like roads, bridges, houses, industries, electricity, etc. are seen everywhere. The Industrial Revolution, the revolution in transportation and information and communication technology enabled humans to change the environment more rapidly.
Man modifies his environment in the following ways-
By polluting various components of the atmosphere, lithosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere.
By building a big dam.
By using the land for the construction of industries, buildings, and other infrastructure like roads, railways, etc.
By making cars, mills, industries, etc.
By deforestation and increasing the cropped area.
Man modifies his environment due to the following reasons –
Over time, there has been a great increase in the human population, due to which human needs have increased, and man fulfills his needs by changing the environment through new technology. For example, earlier the human population was less, then humans could meet their food needs from wild plants and wild animals, but today there is so much population that we cannot meet our food needs without doing agriculture. For this reason, due to the increasing demand for land for agriculture today, we are changing the environment through deforestation. Due to the increasing demand for water and electricity, we build large water reservoirs (big dams).
Man modifies the environment to make life easy, leisurely, and comfortable. For example, the invention of AC, heaters, cars, TV, etc. leads to an increase in the consumption of energy which leads to pollution in the environment (which is a kind of modification in the environment).
