Human habitation in major natural regions:

Humans live in almost every land area of the earth, but the density of human habitation is not the same everywhere, human habitation varies from region to region. About 90 percent of human habitation resides in about 10 percent of geographic areas. Most of the human habitation is found in the plains because the plains have fertile land, an abundance of water resources, flat plains, and a pleasant climate.


Following are the major natural regions of the earth where humans live:

  • river valley region
  • tropical grasslands
  • temperate grassland region
  • equatorial forest
  • deciduous forest region
  • coastal region
  • tropical desert region
  • cold desert region
  • mountainous and hilly regions
  • taiga region
  • tundra region
