The world population has grown very rapidly. Why?

( Chapter - 6 Human Resources, Cass 8 NCERT, Resources and Development ( Geography) )

Answer.

Prior to the 1800s, the world's population grew steadily but slowly because a lack of health facilities and lack of sufficient food resulted in large numbers of children being born but also dying early. Due to the lack of technological advances in agricultural fields prior to the Industrial Revolution, farmers were not able to produce enough food for the population; Therefore population growth was slow.

In 1804, the world population reached the one billion mark for the first time. After 155 years, in the year 1959, the population of the world became 3 billion. After 40 years in 1999, the world's population doubled, it becomes about 6 billion. This is known as population explosion.

Therefore, we can say that the world population has grown very rapidly. since 1804 and still, the world population is increasing very rapidly due to the following reasons -

Better food supply and better health facilities have resulted in a rapid reduction in death rates while birth rates remain high, allowing the world population to grow at an extremely rapid rate.

The invention of insecticides like DDT has reduced many diseases, which has reduced the death rate.

Developments in agricultural sectors such as agro-machinery (tractors), irrigation facilities, hybrid seeds, and fertilizers lead to an increase in agricultural production leading to an increase in food security.
