 Question.

Differentiate between Attitude and opinion.

 ( UPPSC, UP PCS Mains General Studies-4/Ethics 2018)

 Answer.

Attitude and Opinion are two terms that are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct meanings. The following are some differences between attitude and opinion;

Attitude is positive or negative or neutral feelings about persons, things, ideas, goals, subjects, or environment whereas opinion is an individual view or judgment about particular issues or topics.

Attitude is an emotional feeling of an individual while opinion is a statement based on fact, data, or personal experience.

Attitudes of people are based on belief systems or values systems that are often influenced by religion, culture, family, society, or personal experiences whereas opinion is based on knowledge, observation, or personal experiences that can be challenged by evidence or arguments.

Attitude is related more to self like or dislike of things whereas opinion is the generally advisable or judgemental view of others or issues.

Positive attitudes towards particular values help to inculcate them whereas positive values of individuals help in ethical decision-making.

In conclusion, we can say, attitudes are emotions (positive, negative, or neutral) about other people, objects, or issues whereas opinion is views or judgments, or statement about particular issues or topic.
