 Stone Age of Uttar Pradesh:


Stone Age is also known as the Pre-historic Age as there is no written record of this period. 


Stone Age can be divided into three parts-

  • Paleolithic Period ( 2.5 million to 10,000 BC)
  • Mesolithic Period ( 10,000 BC to 8,000 BC)
  • Neolithic Period( Begning 8,000 BC)



Paleolithic period of Uttar Pradesh ( 2.5 million to 10,000 BC):

The following are important Paleolithic sites of Uttar Pradesh:

  • Belan Valley ( Mahugarh and Parisdhia) . It is located in Foot Hill of Vidhya Range, Prayagraj. Prof. G.R. Sharma of the University of Allahabad excavated the Belan Valley. A bone-made Mother Goddess sculpture and stone instruments had been found in Belan Valley.
  • Singrauli basin in Sonbhadra 
  • Chakia in Chaundauli



Mesolithic period of Uttar Pradesh

The following are important Mesolithic sites of Uttar Pradesh-

  • Phulpur ( Prayagraj)
  • Sarai Nahar ( Pratapgarh): Several human skeletons are found.
  • Kaimoor range of Mirzapur and Sonbhadra




Neolithic period of Uttar Pradesh:

The following are important Neolithic sites of Uttar Pradesh-

  • Koldihwa ( Belan Valley)
  • Mahagara ( Belan Valley)
