Presidential Vetoes

Presidential vetoes' power is vested by the president to cancel/stop/reconsider the bill/order of parliament/executive branch.
The following are types of vetoes:

  • Suspensive Veto:
    • Return to bill for reconsideration, however, if the bill passed again then the president is bound to give the assent.
  • Absolute veto:
    • Withholding of assent( No) against a bill passed by the legislature but legislature can override this veto by a simple majority.
  • Pocket Veto:
    • Taking no action against a bill passed by the legislature.
  • Qualified Veto:
    • No bill and legislative can not override the decision made against this veto.

Indian president has only a Suspensive veto, Absolute veto, and pocket veto. Indian President does not have Qualified veto (USA president does have)
