Electricity and Circuits

Use of Electricity
The use of electricity is to make make our tasks easier. For example, it uses to operate pumps, lighting that helps us to continue working at night

Electric Cell(EC)
Electric Cell produces electricity from chemical stored inside. When chemical used up EC stopped working.
Electric Cell has two terminals:

  • Positive terminal:
    • Metal Cap in the positive terminal
  • Negative terminal:
    • The metal disc is in the negative terminal.
Electric current flow from the positive terminal to the negative terminal.
Never join the two terminal of Electric cell without connecting them through the switch and a device like a bulb, if you do so, chemicals in the Electric Cell get used up very fast and Cell stops working.

Electric Cell used for

  • Lighting the Bulb
  • Alarm clocks
  • Wristwatches
  • Transistor radios
  • Camera

Filament

In the bulb: Thin Wire that gives light if electricity passes through it  is called filament of the bulb

Electric Circuit
Electric Circuit provides a complete path for electricity to pass( current to flow) between the two terminal of the electric cells. The bulb glows only when current flows through the circuit. The direction of the current is from positive to the negative terminal of an electric cell.

What is the purpose of using an electric switch?
It is a simple device that either breaks the circuit or completes it to uses in lighting the bulb or other devices.
  • Electric Conductor
    • The Material which allows the electric current to pass through them is called the conductor.
  • Insulators:
    • The material which does not allow the electric current to pass through them. For example, rubber, cotton, etc
