Answer.
Dedication is a human value. Dedication means being committed to the task, thought, and action. Dedication to public service means being committed to working for the public good even in adverse conditions.
As per Margaret Smiths, Public service is more than doing the job efficiently and honestly. It must be a complete dedication to the people and the nation.
Effective administration in public service means managing public resources and delivering services to the public in an efficient and effective manner. It requires dedication toward public services because it prioritizes the needs of the public over their own interests.
In India, civil servants have mainly two roles:
Performing regular administration
Role in the socio-economic development of Nation.
Dedication towards public service is needed for effective administration as:
Dedicated public servants uphold the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity in their work.
Dedicated civil servants are more responsive to the needs of the communities, especially the weaker section of society, and they work to address the concerns of the public.
Dedicated civil servants are more likely to make decisions that benefit the public as a whole, rather than a select few.
Dedicated public servants tend to work more in transparent ways that help in preventing corruption in society.
A large population of India is lacking digital literacy and is poor. Hence, only a dedicated person can help smooth the flow of information between the public and the government.
Smart solutions and dedication need for the welfare of society in adverse conditions like lack of funding, and disaster time.
For example, It was the dedication values of IAS officer Armstrong that encouraged to build of roads with the help of villages to connect remote villages without the help of government funds.
Due to social, cultural, and religious diversity in India, social tension between communities often arises. Hence, only dedicated civil servants can defuse social tension and can able to make long-term social peace.
Hence dedication is needed towards public service for effective administration because it ensures that administrators are working in the best interests of the public and upholding the values of transparency, accountability, and integrity in their work.
