Iron Ore:

It is basic minerals and the backbone of industrial development. As per iron content. these are two types of iron ore in our country:

  • Haematite
    • 50 to 60 % of Iron content
  • Magnetite Iron ore:
    • Finest Quality of iron ore in magnetite Iron ore, iron content up to 70 %.

Total Reserve: 20 billion tones as per 2004-05 

Statewise Iron ore production share:

  • Odisha-52 %'
  • Chhattisgarh: 16 %
  • Karnataka: 14 %
  • Jharkhand: 11 %

Brazil is the highest producer of iron ore in the world.


Manganese:

  • It is used in manufacturing steel, bleaching powder, insecticides, and paint.
  • 10 kg of manganese needed for the manufacturing of one tone of steel.

Distribution:

  • Madhya Pradesh: 27 %
  • Maharastra: 25 %
  • Odisha: 25 %
  • Karnataka: 11 %
  • Andhra Pradesh: 10 %
  • Minor producers: Telangana, Goa, and Jharkhand
