• There is a fishery issue between India and Sri Lanka.
• Sri Lanka alleges Indian fishermen use trawlers maritime boundary of Sri Lanka that affects marine life and damages the ecosystem of the sea.
• Fishery issues started after the finalization of the Maritime boundary in the 1970s.
• In 1974,1976: the delimited international boundary between India and Sri lanks in Palk Bay, Gulf of Mannar, and Bay of Bengal.
• India ceded Kachchatheevu island ( 285 acres) uninhabited island to Sri Lanka in 1976. Tamil Nadu made a strong protest against the ceding. Fishermen issues started.
