(g) Why is Lakshadweep known as a coral island?

Answer:

  • Because it is made up of Coral Polyps.
  • When the coral polyps die; they left their hard skeleton; above this Skelton other polys develop and these processes continue over time. Skelton grows higher and higher and thus coral islands emerge.
