1. What is a habitat?

Answer:

A place where the living organism lives are called a habitat. Habitat provides all the necessary things such as food, water, air, a shelter for the survival of the organism.

Habitat can be:

  • Terrestrial Habitat such as forest, grassland, desert, plain
  • Aquatic Habitat such as lake, river, ocean


2. How are cactus adapted to survive in a desert?

Answer:

Cactus is a plant of the desert ecosystem/Habitat.

The following way cactus adapted in the desert:

  • The leaf-like structure in Cactus works both for stem and leaves.
  • Small leaf  help to reduce transpiration[ loss of water]
  • Thick waxy layer help to retain water in the tissues.
  • The root of the cactus goes very deep into the soil to absorb the water.

8. Explain, why speed is important for survival in the grasslands for animals that live there. (Hint: There are few trees or places for animals to hide in grassland habitats.)

Answer:

There are very little tree and other safe places to hide the prey, that is why speed matter to the survival of the animal in the grassland habitat. Survival of faster runner animals is more as they will able to reach the safer place quicker than the predator.
