Answer.

People migrate in search of better economic and social life. There are two sets of reasons for migration:

  • Push factors
  • Pull factors

Push factors of migration:

Push factors make the source region of migration fewer opportunities than the destination region of migration. Some push factors of migration are unemployment, poor living conditions, unpleasant climate, political unrest, social unrest, natural and human-led disaster, epidemics, drought, floods, and socio-economic backwardness.

For example, fewer economic opportunities in the rural areas of states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, etc leads to huge rural to urban migration.

Pull factors of migration:

Pull factors make the place of destination more attractive than the source region of migration. Some pull factors of migration are better economic opportunities, better living conditions, pleasant climate, social peace, political stability, the safety of life and property, better education and health facilities, etc.

For example, the Delhi-NCR region provides better economic opportunities which are why many people migrate there.
