State the differences between the Dendritic and Trellis drainage patterns.

Answer.

The flow of water passes through fixed channels is known as "drainage" and the network of drainage is known as a drainage system.

The drainage system forms some specific pattern in the geographical areas which is known as the drainage pattern.

There are different types of drainage patterns that are determined by the geological time period, the nature and composition of the rocks, the topography, the slope, and the amount of water flow in the areas.


Following are the important drainage patterns;

  • Dendritic drainage pattern.
  • Trellis drainage pattern.
  • Radial drainage pattern.
  • Centripetal drainage pattern.

A drainage pattern formed like a tree branch is known as a dendritic drainage pattern whereas such a drainage pattern in which the tributaries flow parallel to each other and the secondary tributaries join the primary tributaries at right angles, then such The pattern is known as a trellis.

Dendritic drainage patterns are mostly found in the northern plains while trellis drainage patterns are mostly found in the Chota Nagpur plateau of India.

Dendritic drainage patterns are mostly formed in plain areas where alluvial soil is deposited whereas trellis drainage patterns are mostly formed in areas where soft and hard rocks alternate and exist parallel to each other.
