Differentiate between Objectivity and Dedication | UPPSC ethics paper 2021 solutions

Question.

Differentiate between Objectivity and Dedication.

(UPPSC GS paper 4 2021)

Answer.

Objectivity and dedication are two important values for civil servants which are essential for fair and impartial decision-making and commitment to their services.

Objectivity and dedication are two different values that civil servants are required to have in different aspects during their service:

Objectivity: Objectivity is a value that refers to the ability to be fair and impartial when making decisions. Objectivity also means making decisions based on facts, pieces of evidence, and rules and procedures, rather than personal opinion or interest. The value of objectivity in civil servants helps in ensuring fairness, transparency, accountability, and merit-based decisions in administration and is very important for establishing justice in society.

Dedication: Dedication is also an essential value for civil servants which helps them to have a high level of commitment and passion for their work and services. Dedication helps civil servants to serve the public beyond the hours of duty and inspires them to bring about a positive change in society.

Therefore, objectivity helps in taking fair and unbiased decisions whereas dedication helps in completing the work at the right time and commitment to one's duty. Both objectivity and dedication help civil servants to serve the public in the best interest of society and to the best of their ability.
