Question.

Why is water important to us?

( Chapter 5, Our Environment ( Geography)  Social Science, Class 7 NCERT )

Answer.

Water is a very valuable resource for both living and non-living things. Due to its importance, we celebrate Water Day "World Water Day" every year on 22nd March.

Water is important for us because of the following utilities of water:

Water is used for drinking. Without water, no organism (vegetation and animal) can live on our earth.

Water is necessary for washing purposes like bathing, washing clothes, washing rooms, washing cars, etc.

Water is used by both plants and animals for cooking/photosynthesis.

Water is used for irrigation for crops and every living organism needs a certain amount of water for survival.

The water is used for industrial processing. For this reason, industries are set up near water bodies.

We use water to generate electrical energy, and for this, we collect water by building large or small dams.
