Discuss the utility of emotional intelligence in administration.  (UPPSC 2019)

Answer.

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to identify and manage own emotions, as well as the emotions of others.


As we know Administration refers to the process of managing and organizing resources including human resources in order to achieve goals and objectives. In the context of administration, emotional intelligence is highly useful in many ways, some of it is listed below-


Interpersonal relationship and building trust; Emotional intelligence help to build a better interpersonal relationship with colleagues, subordinates, and other stakeholders. Emotional intelligence help in better understanding the feeling of others and their own which help in effective communication and resolving conflicts more easily, and that help in building trust.


Help in objective decision making; Emotionally intelligent person know their emotional correct and also manage them correctly, so it helps them to make an objective decision, not based on feeling.


Help in self-awareness and reducing stress; Emotional intelligence help to know weakness and strength of own by knowing self-feeling. It also helps to reduce stress and maintain resilience at work.


 In conclusion, we can say, emotional intelligence has many utilities in administration in communication, decision-making, reducing stress, and overall leadership.
