Do you accept that public institutions are successful in the preservation of the rights of people? | UPPSC General Studies 4 Mains ETHICS Solutions 2022

Question.

Do you accept that public institutions are successful in the preservation of the rights of people? (UPPSC 2022)

Answer.

Public institutions are those that serve the public or have an impact on the lives of the public; Governments and courts are examples of public institutions.

Public institutions such as the government and courts have a moral responsibility to protect and preserve the rights of the public. The success of public institutions in protecting people's rights depends on a number of factors, including the effectiveness of the legal system, the level of corruption, and people's participation in the political process. Though these mass organizations are fighting for the interests of most people and in many cases, they have also achieved success, in some of their cases, they have failed.

In some cases like the fundamental rights of the people and the rights of the weaker sections, good work has been done by public institutions. Today any citizen of India irrespective of his background can become the President or Prime Minister of India. Today almost all the poor have a bank account. All the people have basic facilities like electricity, water, road, etc.

However, some of the fundamental rights of its citizens such as the right to equality, freedom of speech and expression, and right to life and liberty are often violated. For example, discrimination against women and communities belonging to weaker sections of society such as Dalits is often seen.

Getting a healthy environment and pollution-free environment is also the right of the people, but most people do not get these rights. However, public organizations such as the Forest Department and pollution control organizations are doing a lot of work on the protection of the environment.

Corruption present in public institutions creates an obstacle in protecting public rights.

From the above, we can say that people have got more rights than before but still, public organizations have failed to protection of many rights like the protection of a clean environment.
