About Raja Sawai Jai Singh ( Jai Singh II):

Raja Sawai Jai Singh II ( 1688-1743) was a Rajput king of the Kachwaha dynasty. He was the Rajput ruler of the kingdom of Amber.

He was the founder of Jaipur City (Amber), which is also known as the Pink City of India. 

He was a capable military leader and an influential figure in the cultural and political landscape of the 18th century.

Mughal Emperor Muhammad Shah was the contemporary of Raja Sawai Jai Singh. He gave him the title of "Saramad-i-Rajah-i-Hind".


About Astronomical Observatory:

Raja Sawai Jai Singh had an interest in astronomy and mathematics. He founded the Jantar Mantar ( Astronomical Observatory) in the five cities of India namely Jaipur, Delhi, Mathura, Ujjain, and Varanasi, to study and accurately measure celestial phenomena.
