more earthquakes in the Himalayas and in the northeastern region of India

Following are the main reasons for more earthquakes in the Himalayas and the North-Eastern region of India -

The Himalayas and the northeastern region of India is a tectonically unstable region as it is the convergence zone of the Indian and Eurasian plates.

The Indian plates are still moving north and northeast and the Himalayas continue to rise. The movement of the two plates, the Indian and the Eurasian plates, results in the accumulation of energy in the Earth's crust at different times. The excessive accumulation of energy creates stress on the earth's crust which results in the breaking of rocks' layers and the sudden release of energy causing earthquakes.

This is the reason why more earthquakes occur throughout the Himalayas and the Northeast region of India.

The most earthquake-prone areas of India are Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, the Darjeeling region of West Bengal, and all North Eastern states.
